Barr Quinn

all this gravity will try to pull you down, but not this time.

the basics
name and nicknames: Barr's full name is Barrfhionn (Barr-fi-on) Calain Quinn, although he prefers to go by Barr.
age and birthday: Born on December fifth, 1994, Barr is seventeen years of age.
    gender: Barr is a male.
years at camp: Barr has been a camper at Camp Half Blood for about five years now, although he wasn't a yer round camper until one year ago.
year rounder or summer: Barr is a year round camper, due to his family having a lack of money to keep sending him back and forth between Ireland and the US each summer. He was a summer only camper for his first four years at camp.
claimed or not: Barr is claimed, and has been claimed for about three years.

the physical
height: Barr stands at a fairly average height of five feet and seven inches.
hair: Barr's hair is a pale blonde colour, which is why his mother chose to name him Barrfhionn. (Barrfhionn means fair hair.) Over the years, his hair has gotten darker, although it still is pretty light. For a while his hair was dyed a dirty blonde colour, although it didn't exactly work for him. Barr's hair has always been about medium length, not very long, but not very short, either. His bangs are somewhat swoopy, which he shamelessly admits to being Justin Bieber inspired. Sometimes he'll use hair jell to shape his hair into a fohawk (fake mohawk).
eyes: Many people tend to notice Barr's eyes, which are a piercing blue colour. Many people tend to think that he wears contact lenses because his eyes are so bright, but they're actually natural. While the colour of his eyes can be described as piercing, they look very kind and soft most of the time.
piercings: Barr does not have any piercings.
tattoos: Barr doesn't have any tattoos, either.
distinguishing features: One of Barr's distinguishing features is his hair. His hair is uncommonly light, although many people have started to bleach their hair lighter because of influences like Lady Gaga. Still, his hair colour is pretty uncommon. Another distinguishing feature is his eyes, which are a piercing blue colour. While his eyes are a very piercing blue colour, they always look very soft and kind, and they tend to give away his emotions very easily.
style: Barr's sense of style is a bit odd, but it's odd in a way that suits him. Like most people, Barr tends to wear t-shirts, whether they're plain or they have some kind of saying on them. He normally wears a cardigan, too, unless it's too hot. The main thing that makes his style of dress so odd is that he normally wears slacks, whether they're plain beige, black, or some odd colour such as blue. Barr often wears sneakers.

the psyche
    likes:
    • Shiny things - Barr absolutely loves shiny objects. It can be a small sequin left on the ground, a diamond, or even a brass button, just so long as it's shiny. He even has a collection of shiny objects that he keeps in a box under his bunk, as well as a flashlight so he can make the objects sparkle.
    • Music - Barr is one of those people who believes that if nothing else works, music will make you happy. He's almost always listening to music, and he's even attempted to start a band on several occasions. It never did work out, though.

    dislikes:
    • Seriousness - There is nothing Barr can't stand more than seriousness. He always had been the type to mess around, who could never take anything seriously and always needed there to be something he could make a joke out of. Naturally, this causes serious situations to be a bit stressful for Barr.

    strengths:
    • Finding the humour in things - Seeing as Barr was quite the comedian, he could almost always find something funny in a situation.
    • Making people laugh - Barr has always been able to make people laugh, and it doesn't even have to be intentional. Sometimes he can simply be doing something that he considers totally normal, but someone else may find it funny. He normally uses this to help people get their minds off of heavy matters.

    weaknesses:
    • He's terrible at being serious - Barr could never be serious. He grew up being the class clown, which resulted in him lacking the skill of being serious. If he's ever in a serious situation, he has to find something funny about it, because that's just the way he functions.
    • He's very easily amazed - It doesn't take a lot to amaze Barr. Just the slightest thing can leave him with his jaw hanging open, completely flabbergasted. He can be amazed by something as simple as a really shiny penny or drops of dew on a leaf.
    • Gullible - One of Barr's two biggest weaknesses is that he's very gullible. He'll believe the wildest of lies, no matter how obvious it is that it's false. If he even starts to doubt something for a second, he starts to feel bad.
    • Overly empathetic - Barr's other biggest weakness is that he's overly empathetic. This makes it very easy for someone to use him to get their way. If a girl stands him up on a date but she tells him some story about her puppy being hit by a car just before the date, he'll end up close to tears and hugging her, telling her that it's okay.

    fears:
    • Falling - While Barr knows that it's a very childish fear to have, he's afraid that, one day, he's going to some how fall off of the Earth and end up falling through space, until he's hopelessly lost. When he was younger, he used to have nightmares in which he would be falling through space for endless amounts of time, and every single time he had them, he would wake up screaming. As he got older, he stopped having the nightmares, but he was still afraid of falling from some height. He had almost forgotten his childhood fear when his school went on a field trip to a planetarium. They had a projection of the solar system on the ceiling, and they zoomed out to show just how vast space truly was, which gave the audience a feeling of falling. This brought Barr's childhood fear rushing back to him, and ever since he's been afraid of falling.
    • Growing up - Barr is actually very afraid of growing up. In Barr's mind, when ou're young, you shine the brightest. Then you get to adulthood, and you start to fizzle out a bit, until you're at grandparent age and you just sit around all day, until you fully fade and die. Barr could never see himself sitting behind a desk working some desk job or just anything beyond being a teenager. It all just scares him. Barr has always thought that he'd kill himself before he got too old, because he has no idea what he'd ever do.

    secrets:
    • He still sleeps with a teddy bear - A little known fact about Barr is that he still sleeps with a teddy bear. He tries to keep this secret as best as he can, because, well, people don't tend to react well when they hear about a seventeen year old boy who still has a teddy bear.

    dreams:
    • To be young forever - This is more of a wish than a dream, but it still counts. Basically, Barr is kind of afraid of growing up. He doesn't want to end up as one of those people who works a stupid desk job that he hates just because it pays the bills. In Barr's mind, the best way to prevent this is to be young forever, even though he knows how unlikely that is.

    quirks:
    • He's very easily amazed - Barr is very easily amazed. He can be amazed by even a colourful pinwheel, or some fairy dust. He's kind of like someone who never takes anything for granted, notices every tiny detail, and praises all of the small things that people consider to be normal.
    • He doesn't have a filter - Barr's mind doesn't have a filter. Whatever he thinks tends to just come out of his mouth. Luckily for him, nearly everything he thinks is innocent. If it's a joke, it's never attacking someone. If he sees a girl who he thinks is pretty, he makes sure that he tells her. If he has a question, he asks it, no matter how stupid it may seem to be.

personality: All in all, Barr is very naive. He's almost like a little kid, in the way that he'll start crying if someone tells him that Harry Potter is just a story, and the way that he trusts almost everyone. He always sees the good in people, no matter how scary the person looks. He could see someone who was covered in tattoos, had a ton of facial piercings, and obviously had a gun in their pocket, and he would sit right next to them if they weren't sitting by anyone because they looked lonely. He's a very likable person, and even the toughest of people tend to find themselves warming up to Barr. He hates it when people are sad, and he always has to try to make them feel better, no matter how rude the person was to him before. Unless, of course, they did something like murder his grandma.

the family
nationality: Barr is Irish, although he's lived in America part time for four years, and he's been living in America full time for about one year.
birthplace: Barr was born in Dublin, Ireland.
hometown: Barr grew up in Dublin, Ireland, although he also counts Camp as kind of like a second hometown, even though he's only lived there year-round for one year.
father: Boreas - Barr's father is Boreas, the Greek god of the cold, north wind. Boreas met Biddy, Barr's mother, when she was on tour in Canada. Basically, they just had a one night thing, and they never met eachother again.

When Biddy became pregnant, though, word came back to Boreas, as things often do come to gods. He knew he couldn't speak to Biddy, but he did watch over her and Barr to make sure things were okay for them. There were times when he did want to intervene, as all gods want to do with their children at least once in their life, but, of course, he couldn't. Boreas and Barr have never met before.

mother: Biddy Quinn - Biddy grew up in the same house that Barr grew up in, and she even has the same furniture that she had in the house when she was a kid. Many people would think that Biddy was one of those girls who was very plain and did everything she was told to do, but this was not the case. Biddy was actually one of those musicians who had one single song that got very popular, but nobody heard of her when the song stopped being played on every radio station. Basically, she was a one-hit-wonder.

During her time as a one-hit-wonder, Biddy went on many tours, one of which had a tour date in Canada. While she was there, she had bumped into Boreas. Basically, things happened that normally happen when you're young and aren't committed to someone, as Biddy was. Now, Biddy thought that nothing would come of it, but the tour had to come to an early close due to Biddy being pregnant.

As soon as Biddy found out that she was pregnant, she knew that there was only one person who it could be. She tried to find the man who she had met while in Canada, but she couldn't find him anywhere. So she went back home to her parent's house, because she still didn't have a house of her own.

Biddy spent a lot of money to make sure she had the best health care and insurance, because she wanted her child to grow up safe. She had many of the same traits as Barr ended up with, especially being overly empathetic, and ended up giving most of the rest of the money she had made off of that one song to charity.

Biddy never married anyone or got a boyfriend, because she was always afraid that Barr wouldn't like her boyfriend. Biddy often put others in front of herself, so this wasn't very surprising. With the help of a well trusted family friend as a babysitter, Biddy raised Barr well enough. Biddy and Barr both got along very well.

siblings: Barr does not have any siblings, although his mother has wanted to adopt children.
pets: Barr has a pet wind spirit horse named Audra. Barr found Audra one day when he was walking through a park to get home. Audra was one horse of a herd of what appeared to be wild horses to most people, but Barr could see what they really looked like. At first, Barr was simply fascinated, watching from afar, but soon he ended up walking over to them. Audra was the friendliest towards Barr, and he almost immediately took a liking to her. When he heard animal control coming, he got the idea that he could somehow keep Audra in a container, so he put her in the container for his sandwich he had at lunch. Shockingly enough, it worked, and he ran away before animal control got there. Ever since then Audra has been Barr's pet.
history: Ages zero to four - Much of Barr's early life passed in the same way. He was raised by only his mother and a very well trusted family friend to watch over him when his mother worked. Barr's family didn't have the most money in the world because his mother donated most of the money from her days as a one-hit-wonder to charity because it made her feel selfish to have so much money, when other people need it more than her. She could have kept the money and not have to work, but she instead chose the more difficult rode. Because of this, Barr's mother wasn't around much, but she and Barr were still very close and spent as much free time as possible together.
Ages five through seven - When Barr turned five, his empathy started to really kick in. This was when it became obvious how much he cared for things. If he ever saw somebody who was sad, he would start trying to make them laugh, which he found to be one of the best techniques he had, so he stuck with that. Most of the time the jokes were foolish, but that was okay, as long as they made people laugh. Barr was much of the same when he was six and seven, although he did show signs of being a bit more immature than the other kids in his grade (think like Britney from Glee, still believing in fairy tales and being distracted or amused by simple things.)
Ages eight through nine - Barr was obviously much more childish than most people his age, although it wasn't in a bad way. Many people tended to find his innocence funny, and some of the more mature girls thought it was kind of cute. During this time, Barr befriended many people, although this was around when weird things started happening to him. On one occasion his mother found him playing with what appeared to be wild horses, which many people were freaked out about, seeing as there were wild horses in a city. The horses were actually some shockingly friendly storm spirits whom Barr had befriended one day.
Ages ten through eleven/a bit of twelve - When Barr turned eleven, things started to get slightly more freaky than they had been. It wasn't so freaky that people started to think something was wrong. No, most people didn't notice anything going on. Most of the things that happened just made Barr look a little disobedient, so they were mainly problems between Barr and his mother. Often Barr would play with the storm spirits, although his mother didn't know about it. Many times, Barr would be playing with them and they would end up making a mess, and Barr's mother would blame it on him. One day when Barr was twelve, he was playing with a boy from school. He decided he would show the boy the storm spirits, because he had a feeling that the boy would be able to see the storm spirits, too. The only difference was that when he went to where the storm spirits were, they ended up attacking Barr and his friend. As luck would have it, Barr's friend was a satyr. Soon after the attack, Barr's friend took him back to his house, where he explained the situation to Barr and his mom. He told them about camp, which Barr and his mother both decided was the best option for Barr, although they decided it would be best if Barr only stayed at camp for the summer.
Ages twelve through fifteen/a bit of sixteen - For about four years, Barr would stay in Ireland with his mom for the school year, but he would go to Camp Half Blood over the summer. When Barr was in Ireland he would leave Audra at camp, and a year-rounder would look after her for him. When Biddy found out that Barr favoured a bow and arrows, she bought him a practicing block that came with some of the dull-pointed arrows so he could practice. Barr's attitude hardly changed, although he did become a bit more mature. Still, he was easily amazed by things and didn't have much of a filter on his mind.
Ages sixteen through seventeen (present) - When Barr turned sixteen, his mother was having some financial difficulty. All in all, they both decided that it would save a lot more money and be far easier if Barr just stayed at camp year round. The summer when Barr was sixteen, he hopped onto a plain to New York City with a one way ticket and some money. His mother told people that he was living with his aunt in America so she didn't raise suspicion. At first, Barr had a bit of difficulty adjusting to life in America. First of all, he had to get used to people saying different words and spelling things differently, which he found the most difficult. He also had a bit of difficulty making new friends, although he did well enough.

extra
    powers: Barr has no powers.*
role-play example: "...and don't forget to send letters!" Barr's mum said, finally finishing her long speech. Her eyes had been filling up with tears as she spoke to Barr, and he was afraid that she might start bawling, right then and there.

Barr honestly couldn't blame her, though. He was going away to live at camp year-round, and he didn't know when he'd ever see his mum again. It wasn't very reassuring. He always knew that he'd be able to return home at the end of the summer. Knowing that he wasn't going to come back home for a while...well, it didn't settle well with him.

"I'll write letters whenever I have the chance, Mum," Barr said. It was a shock to hear his voice sounding so broken and close to tears; he never was the emotional type, always preferring to joke around. He definitely didn't like the scratchiness of the way it sounded, much less the way it felt. "Now I have to go, so I don't miss my flight." he said, after clearing his throat. It didn't really do much to help his voice, but at least he tried.

After he gave his mum a kiss on the cheek and a hug, he turned around and walked into the cool air of the airport. He knew his mum was horrible with goodbyes, which was why he tried to make it as short as possible. If he had stayed a second longer, she probably would have kept him outside for thirty minutes as she cried on his shoulder.

weapon: Barr has a standard issue bow and some arrows from the weapons shed, although he prefers not to fight.
play-by: The playby I am using for Barr is Niall Horan of One Direction so maybe I'm a little bit obsessed...
extra notes: *I am currently too lazy to take the time to think of and type up powers, although, with the permission of an admin, I may add powers later.
