Full name: Kiara April Hughes
Any nicknames?: Kia
Age: 13
Years at Camp: 3 years and 4 months
God and mortal parent: Hecate and Jonathan Hughes
Date of birth: April 18, 1999
Place of birth: New York
Appearance: See HereEye color: A darkish blue, although sometimes it looks a bit like blue violet depending on the lighting
Hair: Her wavy, jet-black hair is rather long, and she has a fringe that nearly covers her eyes
Height: 5 feet and 5 inches
Body type: Tall-ish and rather skinny
Distinct markings: She has light freckles, but they're barely noticed
Personality: Kiara is a rather quiet girl and likes to stay away from crowds. But, like most demigods, she's ADHD so she doesn't like sitting still. Despite her dyslexia, she likes reading books, although in Greek. When annoyed, Kiara can become rude and/or snappy, so it's a bad thing to underestimate her and think she's too "afraid." Even though it doesn't seem so, Kiara
does have feelings, only she's good at hiding them and pretending she's the opposite of what she currently feels (like when she's sad, she pretends to be happy) - only people who are really close to her would know how she actually feels.
Style: See HerePowers: Being the child of Hecate, Kiara knows spells and a bunch of other magic stuff. Easy spells, she could only use for an hour, then she'll get drained, but afterwards - once she's rested - she could do it again, but this time she has to do lesser spells, or she could get drained for nearly the whole day. Hard-ish spells are spells she could use at least 10 times before getting drained for an hour. She has to rest for an hour and some more minutes before being able to do spells once more - the next time she does a spell and surpasses her limit, she may faint. She could use the hardest spells only 5 times, 7 times at the most. If she uses even more, she faints.
Kiara can do defensive spells the best. She sometimes has a hard time with doing offensive spells, and as for healing spells, she's horrible.
Fatal Flaw: Kiara's fatal flaw, like Leo's, is a feeling of inferiority. She feels like she isn't very important, but she covers it by hiding how she feels.
Flaws: She's extremely shy, so she almost never talks to anyone. She also has acrophobia, the fear of heights.
Weapon(s): Kiara has only one weapon, which is a CB hunting dagger. Although she isn't very good with handling weapons and prefers to use magic, she carries it around. She had also given her dagger a name, “Aima.”
Pets: Kiara is rather fond of cats, and has about five at her dad's home, but her favourite is an American Shorthair female kitten called “Nia.”
Talents/Skills: She knows how to use daggers and is good enough to be able to fight properly. She can also fist-fight, but she only does so whenever she can't summon enough magic.
RP Example: When she woke up in a bed and found herself in a camp, Kiara almost immediately felt out of place. This... this
camp... she didn't belong here. Sure, she was a dyslexic, acrophobic, ADHD freak who had just fought with a demonic History teacher an hour ago, but... seeing all these kids training, using actual swords on each other, and lounging around with naiads seemed...
Actually, Kiara didn't even know what it seemed like, but the closest was
bizarre. She couldn't fit in with these kids! They all seemed to be loud and friendly and energetic, but she was just that quiet and shy girl. She didn't even know how to use a knife, much less a
sword. Kiara immediately knew, somehow, that she wouldn't be the best camper around. She wouldn't fit in; her cabin mates would probably think of her as an outsider. They wouldn't accept a girl like
her. And her
friend... her best friendwas a
SATYR!
But she had to try to fit in. She had to-
"
Kiara! Good, you're awake, you've got to meet Mr. D, then I could give you the tour." She saw Chase running. With a reluctant sigh, she ran after Chase.
Biography: Kiara was born in a big family, with 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Being the third-eldest of the siblings, she had a lot of responsibilities: one was having to take care of her many brothers and sisters, while trying to maintain her good grades at school. Of course, it was hard, and every now and then she very nearly earned F's, but she managed to take care of her younger siblings. However the two eldest, who were twins, were no help at all. They were always busy with college, which left Kiara with a lot of responsibilities, but she never complained.
But the unexpected happened one day. Kiara and her friend, Chase, had boarded the train home (their school was ridiculously far from where they both lived) and finally, the train stopped. They got out of the train and looked around for the exit. "We could just have some snacks for a while. We're not in a hurry, anyways," said Chase. Kiara sighed, "All right. But you go and look for snacks, I'm exhausted." Chase told her to wait for him then set off at a run, and soon enough, he disappeared in the crowd.
As she looked around, wondering whether Chase had found snacks or not, something caught her eye. Mr. Carter, her History teacher, seemed to be walking towards her. Eyebrows raised, she wondered what her teacher was doing here; after all, Mr. Carter didn't live
this far from school. And, besides, he never really talked to Kiara before. "Um, Mr. Carter? What are you doing here?"
As she said those words, the crowd slowly thinned - the train was leaving once more. When her teacher didn't reply, she repeated what she had said. Then, all of a sudden, her teacher leaped at her. Kiara backed away immediately. "What do you think you're doing!? Stand and fight, I wasn't hired to kill a coward!" snarled Mr. Carter. Kiara blinked, and did the only thing in her mind: run.
She ran around, found the exit, and wrenched the door open. She saw a lot of cars, and realized that the other kids must be going home already; after all, it was the beginning of summer. With a sigh, she ran to the other side of the road, not even realizing what she was doing. It was mad - she was running as quick as she could go, and before she knew it, she was stumbling around a clearing. Kiara blinked once more.
How did she get there?! And, somehow, she felt rather drained, and when she looked down she saw that her hands were faintly glowing blue.
She immediately turned around at the sound of footsteps. Hiding behind a tree, she scanned the clearing, looking for the source of the noise. For a moment it stopped, but it went back just as quickly. Kiara had just left Chase. And though she was told by Chase to wait for him while he went looking for snacks, she was attacked by her human-eating, demon History teacher and ran away. She had no idea how she managed to get to the clearing, and without getting run over by vehicles.
Kiara snapped out of her flashback when she heard the rustling of leaves and the whistling of the wind. She looked around, not bothering to hide the fact that she was panicking, and jumped at the sudden roar of whatever-it-was. She looked to her left, where the sound came from, and shrieked for a few seconds. Right beside her was her History teacher. "Hello," he grunted. Kiara was shocked, but then ran for it. Mr. Carter chased her. Suddenly, a figure slammed into Kiara. She fell to the ground, just in time, because Mr. Carter had slashed the air with his sharp nails right where she was seconds ago. Kiara made to get up, but she was shoved down again. "Stay down!" a voice hissed. It was Chase.
Kiara blinked and blinked and blinked.
No way, she thought. Chase was standing in front of her, fighting her demonic teacher.
But Chase had furry legs and hooves. Kiara gawked at him. Wrong timing. Mr. Carter slashed at her. She looked down at where he had hit her, and there was blood covering her stomach. She suddenly felt woozy, and then she blacked out.
